Interview with the Author
- Why do you think the topic of your book is important?
My book is centered around helping my reader understand the Truth of God’s Word. I wrote this book knowing my ideal reader (who was ME in my 20s who had very littler knowledge of the Bible and what it meant to live a life sold out for Christ). My book (I’m told) is lighthearted, funny, and uses my love of wordplay & personal anecdotes to illuminate the teachings of Jesus and His character.
- What did you learn from writing this book?
I learned the truth of 1 Thessalonians 5:24 while writing this book (“The one who calls you is faithful… and He will do it”) Writing this book was a clear calling for the Lord, and He equipped me to complete the work He called me to do. I was on my knees every morning before I went to work, asking the Lord to give me the words that my reader would need to see to draw them closer to Christ.
- What is your favorite hymn and why?
I wrote about my favorite hymn “It Is Well With My Soul” in my book (see Astounding Truth #34) “Horatio Spafford is a man who knew something about discontentment. When he wrote a poem in 1873 that later became the hymn “It Is Well With My Soul”, he did not write it from a place of peace. Nevertheless, the lyrics begin with 🎶 “When peace like a river attendeth my way; When sorrows like sea-billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul” 🎶 The words were written after the cataclysmic events that lead to the death of his four young daughters as they crossed the Atlantic Ocean via passenger ship.” His words were inspired by Isiah 48:18.
- What is your favorite verse and why?
Genesis 50:20 “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant if for good….” Because it expresses the sovereignty of God, even through the shadow sides of life. God’s sovereignty is a major theme throughout my book, and one of my favorite aspects of my life as a born again believer.
- What is one thing readers would be surprised to learn about you?
It may be surprising that I wasn’t familiar with the Bible or took an interest to study it until the Lord took everything away that I was chasing at age 28 (a big paycheck, impressive career, hot body, etc. – the things the world told me to chase) I know my reader, because I was my reader in my younger years.
