About the Book
Book: Drandar the Dragon Knight Author: Terrie Hellard-Brown Illustrator: Rachelle Brown Genre: Chapter book for Middle Grade Readers Release Date: February 12, 2025
Drandar is the dragon that has been prophesied. He will help the king build a strong, safe kingdom as one of his faithful knights. But Drandar doesn’t seem to fit what a knight should be or even what a real dragon should look like. He’s what Seraphina calls a “late bloomer.” Drandar is droopy, discouraged, and doubting. Will he ever become the knight he’s supposed to be?

Interview with the Author
- If a reader were to ask you what author you are like, what would you answer?
C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite writers. His writing makes me think, and I love The Chronicles of Narnia. I’ve read them several times, and I dream of having stories that would be that amazing for children to read.
- What helps you to write? Do you eat snacks, listen to music?
Prayer is the best thing to help me write. I pray and feel inspired to write either from that time with God or from reading my Bible. I can’t listen to music while I write. I just start singing along instead of doing what I’m supposed to do. But I like to have a drink handy.
- If you could travel back in time, what time period would you go to?
I would love to visit the 1920’s. It was such an interesting time with so many changes in inventions, people’s thinking, and the birth of modern life, plus my grandmother was a young woman then, and I would love to have known her as a young woman. I think we would have been good friends.
- What is one thing readers would be surprised to learn about you?
Maybe they would be surprised to learn that I’m getting ready to move to Thailand in September to be a missionary. We were missionaries in Taiwan for fifteen years, and we’ve been back in the United States for almost ten years now. Then, God called my husband and me to go back to Asia and start a church. We’re very excited. I’m also working on my Doctor of Ministry degree even though I’m “old.” We all should be lifelong learners, and I’m loving being back in school.
- What inspired you to write this book?
My daughter who has autism inspired this book. She is so wonderful and is an amazing artist, but she had a hard time with perseverance when she was young. She loves dragons and illustrated the book. I wrote it when she was much younger to encourage her to keep trying and that God has a purpose for her life.
