About the Book

Book Title: The Daughter of Rome Author Name: Angela Hunt Genre: Christian Biblical Fiction Release Date: March 4, 2025 In Nero’s Rome, Calandra helps her father, a renowned sculptor, complete the most significant commission of his illustrious career. But then a catastrophic fire nearly destroys the imperial city, leaving Calandra reliant on a group of Christians-—unusual individuals unlike any she has encountered before. Intrigued by their worship of the Son of an invisible God, Calandra grapples with her mistrust, only to find herself indebted to these believers as they help her rebuild her shattered world. When Emperor Nero begins constructing his opulent Golden House, the people of Rome grow resentful, suspecting him of starting the fire in order to clear the land for his immense palace. Needing a scapegoat, Nero points at those who follow the Jewish Messiah, forcing Calandra to make an impossible choice between right and wrong, friends and family, love and death.

Book Excerpt

“Calandra!” Father called from the other side of the workroom. “How fares the painting?” “I am still working, Father. Would you have me rush?” “Cronus awaits his masterpiece.” “The senator can wait. I daresay he is used to it.” I swirled ground charcoal into a drop of walnut oil, then flattened my brush on a stone. With the tip pressed into a fine point, I painted a thin line around the glass eyeball of Lucius Cronus Tuscus, the wealthy senator and elected official who had hired my father to sculpt his likeness in marble. “We are five days overdue,” Father called. “Still, Cronus should be pleased he has not had to wait as long as others.” “One cannot hurry art,” I said, repeating my father’s favorite phrase. “And I cannot rush these details.” With the tip of my brush I painted sparse lashes on the upper and lower eyelids, then stepped back to survey my work. Father stood beside me, and together we studied the likeness of one of Rome’s best-known patricians. Every detail was accurate—the jutting jaw, the haughty brow, the slight smirk on the lips. And of course he was wearing the purple-banded toga of a senator, his fingers tucked into the elaborate folds at his left shoulder. “He will hate it,” Father finally said, his hand alighting on my arm. “Because Cronus is never satisfied. But you and I have done our best, so we have no reason to be ashamed.” “If you knew he would hate it, why did you accept the commission?”
