Excerpt from the Book

The initial rays began to fall on her mother’s lavender chrysanthemums, bringing the first splash of color to the gray, ashen landscape. She inhaled all of the fall’s offerings with a new appreciation for the changes of season. Her final school year would determine a new direction for her contributions to the sector, and she was equally excited about discovering her future path as the butterflies that were taking flight in her stomach. “Achoo!” The morning’s tranquility was destroyed by the snotty-nosed intruder beside her. “Please cover your mouth, Molly,” she repeated for the zillionth time to her seven-year-old sister. “And use a tissue for TEAMMATE’s sake!” “Sorry,” said the watery-eyed youngster. “I was fine until we came outside.” Ellie shot her a look of annoyance as the girl wiped her nose on her sleeve. Kids are so gross. “You really need to work on your manners this year, Molly. You’re not in first-grade anymore.” The rebuke upset her younger sister. “Mommy says you need to work on being nice to people,” she shot back. Ellie rolled her eyes. “Let me rephrase, dearest Teammate Molly. Thank you, my dear, for sharing all of your germs this morning with me. I really appreciate the extra shower, especially on the first day of school.”
